New Welcome Brochure!!! By Mike Mangan
The Welcome Committee has been reactivated with Mike Mangen at the helm! Many of us thought that it would be a nice touch to welcome new neighbors to our area with information about the federation as well as the neighborhood in general. Our new WELCOME brochure was developed for these folks as well as for distribution by realtors who are listing homes in our area and to anyone else who might be interested in more information about the Triangle and the Federation. The brochure is in full color and contains many beautiful photographs of our homes taken by our long-time resident graphic artist, Bill Patterson.
If you would like a copy for yourself or, perhaps, for someone considering moving into the area please contact one of your trustees or officers. We hope to provide each new resident with a welcome package that will contain the brochure, a copy of the current newsletter, a copy of the home tour booklet and an "official" letter of welcome with an invitation to join the federation. Please help us to identify and welcome new neighbors by contacting your district trustee or any officer. Contact Mike Mangen, 277-4423, for more information. Brochures will be available at the next Neighborhood General Meeting.

DVT May Trustees Meeting-Summary by K. Rizer
Garage Sale Chairperson, Lori Mayo, reported that May's Garage Sale had about 50 listings. Because it rained, the ad next year will have a rain date.
Petitions signed at the Winter General Meeting were send to the School Board, City Commission and Police leadership.
From Ray Alexander, Northwest Priority Board - recommendations to combat drug houses such as one on Elsmere: (1) Press City for Housing Enforcement; 2) Notify owners that we expect compliance with Housing Code; 3) Continue to pursue Housing issues ; 4) Try Civil Action . Trustees will meet with Mayor McLin.
June 28th-DVT letter/petitions sent to the Police Department have had an effect! Response from Chief Davis noted "the 5th District has been assigned 5 additional Officers and 4 new parked cruisers." Also work hours were decreased.
Ami Bement reported on the last Ice Cream Social and Movie-133 people came for ice cream and 30 stayed for the movie. The plan is to have another Ice Cream Social and Movie in September.
Mike Dolinski, Housing Committee reported calls to. Fred Stovall, Director of Public Works, resulted in chest high grass being cut at empty house, house condemned; cars moved off Auburn. Cases on six Ravenwood houses on are going to Housing Court in August.
Trustee Mary Whitney reported Trustees planted flowers in Otterbein islands and the UTS Gazebo.
July 26th-Bill Patterson was present to show the brochure he has designed for the Welcoming Committee that is chaired by Mike Mangan. It is a three-page fold out and has some wonderful pictures. This brochure will also be used for Realtor Open Houses.
President Steve Blatt received a letter from the Board of Education in response to our letter to them.
At United Theological Seminary's request, Trustees developed possible optimal, acceptable and unacceptable reuse alternatives for UTS property. In response to question on current soundness of the buildings: the chapel is sound; Fout will be demolished; the library, Roberts and Bonebrake Halls could be refurbished. Asbestos is in all buildings, and the heating setup is awkward as all heat comes from a central location through the tunnels.
Three lists were made of reuse possibilities: Acceptable, Unacceptable, and Optimal uses.

President's Column by Steve Blatt
When people ask me what I think of my neighborhood, I sometimes consider saying what Shakespeare wrote in Hamlet, “I like this place and would willing waste time in it.” We are all busy, but we should “waste” time to walk or drive around and view our beautiful homes and gardens. Especially mine, now that I have a new paint job, new roof and a new garage. Now news of the neighborhood:
By the time you read this the derelict property on Salem and Catalpa will have been demolished. Thank God for this small favor! See photos below.
Frank Balogh, our Web Master, informs me that you can now access our web site, www.Daytonviewtriangle.org as a link on the City of Dayton web site. If anyone wants to learn about our neighborhood, refer them to our web site.
Our next neighborhood-wide General Meeting is scheduled for August 22 at 7:00 pm in the Chapel on the grounds of United Theological Seminary (UTS). At the meeting, we will discuss WHAT TO DO WITH THE SEMINARY WHEN IT IS VACATED? The Trustees have come up with ideas and now we want to hear from you! Dr. Ed Zeiders, President of UTS, will participate and take suggestions from those in attendance about how the seminar property can best remain a good neighbor.
Our second Movie and Ice Cream Social will be Sunday, September 12. We will be scooping Sherer's Ice Cream again starting at 6:30. The movie will be shown at 7:30 in the Chapel. A flyer with more details and your ice cream coupons will be distributed soon.
Also in September, the 18th, we will have our annual neighborhood-wide Bulk Pick-up. Details are on page 2. As a former Chair of this committee, I can tell you that those who volunteer always have a good time seeing the neighborhood from the back of a garbage truck and doing a good deed to give back to the greatest neighborhood in Dayton.
Finally, I have to announce the retirement of our Triangletter Editor, Laura Haney. She has served as Editor for over 10 years. We all owe her our thanks for doing one of the more thankless jobs in our organization. She has had to harass people to meet deadlines, find interesting ways to make copy shine and deal with problems in printing, collating and mailing what you read four times a year. God love you Laura, for all you have given back to our neighborhood!
|
The mood was festive as we joined a cheering crowd of neighbors at the corner of Salem and Catalpa on Aug 10th to watch the demolition of a neighborhood eyesore!

There are currently two Trustee positions available-Districts 6 and 8. You do not have to live in the District to represent it although preference will be given to someone who does. Contact Steve Blatt for information or to join us.

I just had a very pleasant surprise! Vectran discovered a gas leak on my property. I called 5 contractors, three came out, 1 astounded me. He called Vectran for information, persuaded them to return and do a more thorough evaluation of my situation and, ultimately, to replace their leaking gas valve. This contractor worked himself out of a $1,200 job! I'd recommend him-Call Sandi at 278-3955 for info, or go to Plumbing.
