I am proud to be the president of the Dayton View Triangle Federation, Board of Trustees, for the year 2004.  Living in the Triangle for over 15 years has allowed me to see the development and stability of our community. In other words,  we have changed, but we are still the same.  If you should compare the 1980 census data to the 2000 census data you would not find a significant shift in the racial, economic or educational profile of our neighborhood.  But old neighbors retire, change jobs, get divorced and move to different communities.  Their place is taken by the same or similar type of people when it comes to race, economic resources or education achieved.

However, the Dayton View Triangle is about more than census data!  We have what Dr Felton Earls, of the Harvard School of Public Health, called a “community of people who are willing to act, when needed, for one another's benefit.”  We are a neighborhood of neighbors who take action, who make an effort to solve problems and build community.  And most importantly, we sustain that effort.  For example, 10 years ago one of our neighbors became aware of several families, in our neighborhood, who lacked the resources to provide a happy Christmas for their children.  The Dayton View Triangle Federation was contacted and through a volunteer effort collected foodstuffs and money to give to these families.  The next Christmas season the need was still present and the Federation sent a letter to all neighbors asking for donations.  This effort has continued every year since and in the 2003 Christmas season families were given over $700.  We have other programs that have continued even longer.  Our Dayton View Triangle Garage Sale is known throughout Dayton as a place where bargains can be found.  In June of 2006 we will have our 30th annual, neighbor wide garage sale.

On other pages of this web site your will find descriptions of a number of standing committees that are organized, through the Dayton View Triangle Federation Board of Trustees, to perform actions for the benefit of our neighborhood.  If you are lucky enough to find a house in the Triangle, that fits your needs, then I ask that you contact any Trustee of the Federation and offer to help continue this unique effort in building community.
